Warren Sets Sights on Nostalgia Muscle Car and Chevrolet Performance Stock By Mary Lendzion

After missing the 2014 NMCA season opener last March, Detroit Truetrac Nostalgia Muscle Car driver Andy Warren Andy Warrenwent on to win two events, runner-up at one event and finish just outside of the top spot in points. And while the three-time champion admits that the latter grates on him, he also admits that he’s turning his focus to the 2015 season and earning a championship beginning with the 13th Annual Ross Racing Pistons NMCA Muscle Car Nationals, March 20-22, 2015 at Bradenton Motorsports Park in Florida.

“If I can get the financial support to make it down to Bradenton, this will be my year,” said Warren, whose brother is Edelbrock Xtreme Street driver John Warren. “I have the drive and the determination to make it happen. My car will be ready and I will be ready to get my first win in Bradenton, and then hopefully continue the streak throughout the season.”

Because he wants to go into the season with tried-and-true data, he plans to keep upgrades to his ’71 Caprice — a hot topic on race forums across the country — to a minimum. His Knieriem Racing Engines-built 427 cubic-inch engine will remain between the frame rails, but his ATF TH350 transmission has been freshened by Bilbrey Automotive and his converter has a date with Ultimate Converter Concepts for some finessing.

He’ll move to new FueLab 41404 Prodigy fuel pump and an Aerospace Components billet vacuum pump, and he’ll run new wiring and a shut-off switch by Ron Francis Wiring.

Helping to lighten things up will be chrome moly bumper brackets fabricated by John Shelden as well as lightweight XS Power S1600 16V batteries.

Exhaust will exit through Flowmaster Outlaw Series race mufflers and the big blue beauty will roll on Mickey Thompson 28X10.5X15 Pro Bracket Radial tires wrapped around Mickey Thompson Pro-5 wheels.

But change could be brewing for the eleven year veteran of Detroit Truetrac Nostalgia Muscle Car, as he hopes to build a car for the NMCA’s new Chevrolet Performance Stock category for 2016.

“If I can win a fourth class championship in Nostalgia Muscle Car, it may open up the right doors to where I can get support to build a Chevrolet Performance Stock car for the 2016 season,” said Warren. “I wanted to try the class because of the great challenge it presents. With everyone on a level playing field, it’s up to the chassis tuning and driving skills. The one engine combination, one weight and one tire eliminates a lot of the loopholes that many heads-up classes face. It’s a driver’s class.”
